We are currently living through very dark days with Covid-19 virus touching the whole world, economic crisis, and racism impacting our lives. Depression, anxiety, and ever present conflict dominate our lives. We seem at a loss as where to turn for help. We may look to political leaders, scientific community, popular figures, friends, family who all fall short of easing our distress.

I seem caught in the middle of two extreme perspectives. One is the optimist who says “Good morning God,” and the pessimist who says “Good God, morning.” There are those days that I will resemble either one or both. In the long run neither extreme helps me deal with the dark days.

The one thing that has help me to journey through these dark days is to be reminded who is in charge. It is the Lord. The palmist is a source of my strength as he says in Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” My understanding is that the word of the Lord either scripture or Jesus as the Word illuminates my life’s journey. The Lord alone should guide and directs my action and responses to the dark days I am experiencing.

As a lamp to my traveling and light to my life’s journey the Lord provides a realistic picture of how to traverse dark days. Hope is to be found in the Lord; however, there is not a promise that all will go smoothly. The promise is that in the end God is in charge and the one who will provide enough for us to get through. Our response is to remain faithful to God’s call to obedient. Amen
