COVID-19 Fever

Many of us today are experiencing what is being called COVID-19 Fever. It is like what we have called in the past “Cabin Fever.” COVID-19 and Cabin Fever are the experience of being house bound or quarantined for a long period of time. We become bored, lack energy to do much, become anxious, irritable, depressed, despondent, and a host of other emotions. We become almost disabled.

With the advent of the COVID-19 virus all of us have had to take unusual action to combat it. One of the actions has been inaction of being quarantined for what seem to us as forever. We have become accustom to having our needs and wants taken care of right away. In our instant gratification society we get upset if things are not taken care of right now. Our lives are now dominated by fever.

How do we care for the COVID-19 fever? Good question Pastor Ken! What is the answer? I am not sure under the circumstance what THE answer might be. I can only share what I understand the Christian Faith has to say.

Dr Streyffler, licensed mental health counselor, has shared in response the following: “While we may not be able to control when or how the pandemic ends, what we can control is the kindness and grace we have for ourselves and others.” I believe that she is correct. We do not know the end but believe there will be an end. In the meantime we are to have faith and hope in a God who provides for us. We have a God who calls us to show kindness and love to others as well as ourselves. We need to be gentle with ourselves and use our time to be in communion with God through prayer and meditation. We should use our time to listen to what God would call us to do during this time of COVID-19 fever. What we are called to do will be different from one person to another. How we go about carrying and loving ourselves and others may take different forms; however, we are call to show kindness and grace too because the fever impact everyone. We are also called to be patient with self and others actively waiting on God to provide for us enough to get over our fever.
My prayer for all of us is that we remain faithful to God’s call to show forth love and kindness to all and to self. That we continue to work on our relationship with God in Christ and keep our faith and trust in god’s grace. Amen

Blessing upon you and the congregation of Pilgrim church,
